Cohesion - Introduction
The CfED
Community Development Programme focuses on four main areas of work:
Race and
Community Cohesion
'Improving Opportunity, Strengthening Society' is the Government's
strategy to increase race equality and community cohesion. A
cohesive community Is
defined as one where:
-
there is a common vision and a sense of belonging for all
communities the diversity of people’s different backgrounds and circumstances is
appreciated and positively valued
-
those from different backgrounds
have similar life opportunities
- strong and positive relationships
are being developed between people from different backgrounds in the
workplace, in schools and within neighbourhoods
Equality and Diversity
CfED seeks to challenge discrimination and harassment primarily
across the race equality strand as well as strengthening its work
across the age, gender, disability, sexual orientation and religious
belief equality strands.
Voluntary and Community Sector Development
The Community Development Programme seeks to develop the BME led and
emerging communities voluntary and community groups (its people,
organisations and infrastructure). Our services include
Trustee/Staff training, provision of information, organisational
development, 1-2-1 support etc in Dudley. We also offer groups and
individuals the use of our IT suite and library in the Community
Resource Centre.
Community Empowerment
CDP seeks to develop the skills, knowledge and providing
opportunities for BME and emerging communities to participate,
contribute to and influence local planning and decision making
ensuring that existing and new developments demonstrate and achieve
equitable outcomes in respect of those communities.
